What are the services done by the SPC laboratory?

Testing of following samples

  1. Tender Samples
  2. Pre-shipment samples
  3. Pre-market samples
  4. Complaint samples
  5. Post market samples

After testing

  1. A tender sample, certificate is issued by the laboratory & findings will be used to select the supplier by the Tender board.
  2. A pre-shipment sample, certificate is issued by the laboratory and based on the findings only good consignments will be ordered by the Imports Department.
  3. A pre-market, complaint or post market sample, if the product is unsatisfactory or does not comply to the relevant specifications, findings will be informed to the higher management to take a decision.

Products are tested according to the methods in current versions of BP, USP, IP or supplier’s in-house methods too.

Yes, The relevant specification should be provided with sample, & it will be tested at a reasonable cost.

SPC invite tenders mainly through World Wide tender. These are published in the Sunday Observer newspaper, in the web site of SPC and tender invitations are e-mailed to Indian High Commission, Pakistan High Commission and to the Ministry of External Affairs, which in turn mail it to Foreign Missions.

According to the information given in the tender invitations Tender documents can be purchased from SPC and prospective tenders could quote as per the conditions stated therein.

Registration to import a drug or medical device is carried out by the Cosmetic Devices & Drug Authority (CCDA), Sri Lanka. You can obtain the relevant details by visiting the web site of CDDA i.e. www.cdda.gov.lk

Yes, It's mandatory that you get your label approved prior to a shipment as per the Indent conditions.
